Mazda is set to make a notable entrance into the seven-seat SUV market with the launch of the CX-80 in Autumn 2024.

The CX-80 is set to become the crown jewel of Mazda's lineup, positioning itself as the brand's premier vehicle.

This launch marks Mazda's first venture back into the realm of true seven-seaters since the discontinuation of the Mazda5 MPV in 2016.

The CX-80 will be offered with two powertrain options: a petrol plug-in hybrid system or a six-cylinder diesel engine.

This is a notable development, especially as Volvo has recently ceased the production of diesel vehicles, indicating Mazda's continued investment in diesel technology for the foreseeable future.

The powertrains for the CX-80 will mirror those available for the more compact CX-60, including the ‘Skyactiv-G’ 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 129kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery, or the 254 PS 3.3-liter ‘e-Skyactiv D’ diesel engine.

All models of the CX-80 will feature all-wheel drive as standard, regardless of the selected powertrain.

Though full details for the UK market will be revealed in due time, Mazda has teased some of the technology that will be available, such as in-car voice control via Amazon Alexa.

This feature will allow drivers to control various functions like music, air conditioning, navigation, and compatible third-party applications. Mazda Motors UK’s Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson, emphasized that the all-new CX-80 will represent the pinnacle of Mazda's offering in the UK, combining spaciousness, functionality, luxury, and distinctive design. "With its forward-thinking design rooted in Japanese aesthetics, the CX-80 will offer exceptional interior space that encapsulates quality, style, versatility, and advanced technology, along with Mazda's hallmark driving dynamics," said Thomson.

Set to start at £48,920 for purchase, the CX-80 aims to be a competitive contender in its class, going up against established models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Kia Sorento, and the newly updated Hyundai Santa Fe. Further details on leasing options will be provided as they become available.
