Smart #6: The Saloon That’s About to Change Everything

Smart has introduced the all-new Smart #6, a sleek plug-in hybrid saloon that marks a bold new era for the brand. Once known for tiny city cars darting through tight spaces, Smart is stepping confidently into the premium saloon world — and the #6 wears this transformation with style.

A Powerful New Hybrid Era
The Smart #6 EHD — short for Electric Hybrid Drive — is only the brand’s second plug-in hybrid. It uses Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 system, pairing a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of up to 429bhp. The power is channelled through a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, offering a smooth yet energetic drive.

Its lithium-iron-phosphate battery supports around 177 miles of electric-only driving under the CLTC cycle, while the total range stretches to an impressive 1125 miles. With fuel consumption around 72.4mpg, the #6 balances power, efficiency and refinement beautifully.

Smart’s Biggest Car Yet
At 4906mm long and 1922mm wide, the Smart #6 is the largest vehicle the brand has ever produced — a major shift from its city-car roots. Built on Geely’s PMA2+ platform, it’s also one of the longest models the architecture supports. Its proportions place it directly against rivals like the BYD Seal DM-i, Xiaomi SU7 and even mainstream European saloons.

Despite its size, the #6 keeps Smart’s trademark design cues. Short overhangs, a clean aerodynamic profile and a minimalist silhouette give it a modern and confident presence on the road.

What to Expect Inside
Smart hasn’t revealed the interior yet, but it’s expected to echo the design seen in the larger Smart #5. If so, drivers can look forward to a 13-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a cabin that blends futuristic styling with premium functionality.

The Fully Electric #6 Arrives Next Year
A pure electric version of the #6 will launch in China next year, offering either a 75kWh LFP battery or a 94kWh NMC pack. The model will support both 400V and 800V systems, enabling ultra-fast DC charging up to 400kW.

Rear-wheel-drive versions will form the core of the EV lineup, with outputs ranging from 340bhp to 363bhp depending on the battery. Higher up, dual-motor all-wheel-drive trims dial up the excitement, including the #6 Pulse with 588bhp and the range-topping #6 Brabus pushing 646bhp.

A Brand Reinvented
Founded in 1994 by Mercedes-Benz, Smart has transformed from a quirky city-car maker into a tech-driven premium EV brand under its 50:50 partnership with Geely. The #6 embodies this shift — bigger, more ambitious and ready to compete in a global market that’s rapidly evolving.

And the story doesn’t stop here. Smart’s next chapter includes the revival of the iconic Fortwo in 2027 as the Smart #2, with whispers of a new Forfour on the horizon too.
