Michelin launches next-generation tyres designed to improve EV range and efficiency

Michelin has introduced two new tyre ranges aimed at meeting the demands of modern vehicles, including electric, hybrid and internal combustion models. The MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energyhave been developed to deliver a balance of energy efficiency, performance, safety and longevity.

With electrification continuing to reshape the automotive industry, tyres now play a critical role in improving vehicle efficiency and extending driving range. Michelin’s latest innovations reflect this shift, offering measurable benefits for both drivers and manufacturers.

Designed for efficiency without compromise
Both tyre ranges have been engineered to reduce rolling resistance while maintaining strong grip and durability. This allows vehicles to operate more efficiently without negatively impacting safety or driving performance.

Key benefits include:

  • Up to 10% additional range for electric vehicles

  • Up to 6% reduction in fuel consumption

  • Lower CO₂ emissions

  • Improved acoustic comfort
These improvements are particularly relevant as drivers and businesses look to reduce running costs while supporting more sustainable mobility.

MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy: focused on everyday efficiency
The MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy is designed for everyday driving, offering a strong combination of safety, efficiency and long-term value.

It achieves a Triple A rating for:

  • Rolling resistance (efficiency)

  • Wet grip (safety)

  • External noise (comfort)

The tyre also delivers:

  • Up to 8% shorter braking distances in wet conditions

  • Up to 40% longer lifespan compared to leading competitors

  • Up to 70 km of additional driving range for electric vehicles
In addition, reduced rolling resistance can result in fuel savings of up to £147 over the tyre’s lifetime, alongside a reduction in overall emissions.

MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy: performance with efficiency
For drivers seeking a more dynamic driving experience, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy combines performance-focused handling with improved energy efficiency.

Developed using Michelin’s motorsport expertise, the tyre features:

  • Enhanced grip in both wet and dry conditions

  • Precise steering response and stability

  • A-rated rolling resistance, which is uncommon in performance tyres
Its durability has also been proven under extreme conditions, including sustained high-speed testing at up to 300 km/h, demonstrating both endurance and reliability.

Supporting the future of mobility
As vehicle technology continues to evolve, particularly with the growth of electric vehicles, the role of tyres is becoming increasingly important. Improvements in efficiency, durability and performance can have a direct impact on running costs, vehicle range and overall driving experience.

Michelin’s latest tyre ranges highlight how incremental advancements in component design can deliver meaningful benefits for drivers, while also supporting wider environmental and industry goals.
